Search engine optimization (SEO)
isn’t exactly rocket science, but it still entails a keen eye for
detail to work properly. Sadly, not all business owners know much
about proper SEO
practice.
This leads to committing some of the following mistakes:
Keyword stuffing– Search
engines such as Google are literally getting “smarter,” with
numerous updates intended to make search queries much more
interactive and effective. Keyword stuffing (aka the practice of
filling a website with searchable keywords in order to rank) could
get a site booted out of the top half of the rankings and ultimately
into the last page.
Duplicate content– Duplicate
content is defined as having the same/nearly the same content on two
different URLs. By having duplicate content, a site can be ranked
lower in search engine results pages and receive much less traffic
than intended.
404 Errors– Search
engines view sites with lots of 404 errors as having serious quality
issues, so they gave these lower ranks. Businesses must try to keep
their web pages in top-notch quality as consumers simply hate waiting
for pages to load, only to find an annoying 404 error notification at
the end.
Un-optimized title tags– Title
tags are some of the most important on-page elements for successful
SEO. Using simple terms, such as the company brand name for a title
tag, won’t make a search engine rank the site any higher.
